John Deere 970 fuel filter change

The operators manual for my 2001 JD790 says that the fuel system is self bleeding, not self priming. I think there is a difference between the two terms. Anyway, I am certain you are correct in stating that your JD970 is self priming, I've never had any experience with those models.

I think if I'd assembled the shut off valve correctly it might have worked. By the time I discovered the problem, all of the fuel was sucked out of the system leaving nothing but air. Had to open and prime much of the system because of the mistake made assembling the valve. Have never run this motor out of fuel to test this system before this, so hard to say.

Can somebody explain more how to bleed. I changed both filters and now it wont start. Seems no fuel at all getting into the injectors. Plenty of fuel belpw the injectors. Do i try to bleed the injector tubes on top of the pump manifold or as they go in the motor? thanks

You need to crack the lines right at the injectors one at a time and crank the engine until you get diesel coming out. It should fire up after that.
