Johndeere 990
Hi Guys, long term lurker, only posted a few times if any. I'm looking for some help. I've got a 2003-2004 990 that has served me very well. I figure being 13 years old at this point its time to give it a little loving. I am looking for a grille (front and both sides). I use this tractor primarily at our horse farm and the shavings/water etc has corroded the belly pan that holds the battery as well as the bottom couple inches of the grille. Any one have any spots to find these? I've looked around trying to find them somewhere other than the stealership.

Second thing is for a little while the tractor has seemed kind of boggy when you try to dig into a pile or hauling a big load of hay. When we first bought the tractor you could push into a manure pile and it would keep going until you broke traction then just keep churning the wheels. Not so much anymore. I originally thought injector but it does not smoke anymore than normal. Any ideas?

Thanks guys! David

With 13 years of use I would ask what kind of maintenance has the tractor received? How many hours of use?

Regular fuel, oil, and air filter changes along with grease and hydro changes. Only a little under 600hrs.

I would try a good injector cleaner additive. You might find a can of sea foam in the fuel would help.

If this does not help you might check the compression to see if it is high enough. If the compression is good on all cylinders then test the injectors and fuel system further. I would also check the return lines to the tank too.

Probably time to adjust the valve lifters. There is/was a grill on eBay. As for battery tray, use the bottom tub from a boat battery box. You could even pop rivet it to whatever sheet metal remains. Wash it with baking soda first. The battery acid rotted your steel.
