John Deere D140 Power Issue

Hi all. I have a D140 that cannot climb hills anymore, basically lost any power it once had. I replaced the drive built thinking the belt could have been slipping as a couple areas looked cracked. That did not solve the issue. I am fearing it is a major transmission issue as my yard is quite hilly and I read this article: John Deere Hydrostatic Transmission Fix . Any other ideas of things I could look at / check? When I go in reverse it has plenty of power which adds more evidence that it could be a transmission issue.

I am starting to think I chose too small of a tractor for my hilly yard. Has worked fine with yearly maintenance for 6 years now.

Welcome to the forum! You could be there. Before you go down that road, remove the deck and clean the old grass from the top of the plate where the steering shaft comes through. Too much debris and the brake clutch pedal won't fully come back - so it would be like riding the clutch. Check too that your brake is releasing as it should.

Thanks for the info and the welcome. I keep the deck pretty clean, I will give the brake adjustment a once once.

I wonder how the lawsuit in the link went?. I didn't see the resolution, but just imagine the uproar if cars had automatic transmissions with no means to change the fluid!.. I have the LA145, but have a fluid reservoir with a removable cap to add fluid, but no apparent drain hole to drain the fluid!.. a poster somewhere said you can resurrect the JD autos, but need to remove the transmission, and turn it over to drain the fluid, after that's done, it's good to refill it, and drain it again, so the junk comes out, the refill it with the light JD hydraulic oil, and that usually does the trick, unless the filter inside is clogged, or some other parts were worn, but the poster said you can buy the parts from Tuff Torq..
