john deere f910 valves won't stay adjusted

Maybe it was a lean condition to build up so much heat. 1100 hours for an aged, air cooled engine is not real high time, but it is high time.
Synthetic oils can really help an air cooled engine last. Briggs used to double the warranty with certified synthetic oil changes using their brand of oil.

Can you find new parts with a new valve seat?

It's my father in laws and he's a pretty good machinist and he thinks he can make any piece he needs and harden it. He has only had the mower for 7 years or so and only put 300 hours on it. But he is going to try running it one more time and see what happens then. The plugs don't show that it has been running lean so I don't know.
