Does anyone have any experience with the John Deere F932 front mounted mower? I am looking to purchase a used one and would appreciate any feedback. The mower has a 28HP yanmar gas engine. Does anyone have any knowledge of these engines?

Thanks for the help!!

Jon,
Where I work for a living,/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gifthe college has a grounds department.
Back in 1997?? the college purchase three F925 w/mowers&sweepers&plow blades.
One F925 was a gem but the other two /w3tcompact/icons/frown.gifthey had a lot of front wheel bearing promblems also the operator's complain about not very good tractioning when mowing slopes even with counter balance on the rear.

Maybe the F932 a better unit??

The college traded two F925 for Kubota front mowers about month ago {heck I guess I need to visit there shop and see there new toys. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif}Maybe I can get some feed back for you.

The Kubota dealer has one of the F925 for sale.
1997..F925..1,798 hours..$5,950.oo

Take Care.

The engine is tough as a bullet. The block and the entire bottom end are shared with the diesel version and have a different head (with sparkplug holes, of course), lower compression pistons, intake adapted for carburetor, different governor, and externally mounted ignition triggers (and coils). In the eight years I've been a JD tech., I have only seen one of these engines with a major failure, and it was due to operator error as opposed to mechanical failure.

Doctordeere,

Thanks for the input!! How many hours do you think that this Yanmar gas engine will go before major problems begin? Do you think that 600 hours is high hours for a machine like this? How about the F932 machine is that a good machine. How many hours can you expect of these machines before major work is required.

Thanks for your help doc!
Jon.

What I see most in the F9XX series is the F935, which is the same basic thing with a diesel engine. I routinely see them with 1500 to 2000 hours on them (with little maintenance having been done), still in good shape. These units are typicaly from a golf course and are used and abused on a daily basis. If you want one for homeowner use, and properly maintain it, it could outlast us both.

I have no experience with the F-932 but I do own a 1995 F-936 with 600 hrs on the meter and no major problems recently. I take very good care of it, but it does see a good deal of use in my landscaping company. I wish that they had hydraulic clutches instead of electric as my clutch went early at only 200 hours. Warranty picked up the $350 for that one. A bearing just went out on the deck as well, but otherwise, a great machine. Even a gas engine should go several thousand hours before a major overhaul, providing that you take care of it properly. I'd spend a little more and get an F-925 or F-935 with the Yanmar diesel. Terrific engines! You'll also want the hyd. weight transfer option, as the mower is useless in wet or sloping lawns without it. My F-935 is built very well, but the design is showing its age. They've changed very little over the past 15 years. But...they still can mow 3+ acres an hour with a 72" deck!!

Good Luck!
