Do need to run JD HX10 with chain to keep top roller out of bind?

Are you asking about running a chain for a top link??

I had an M1008 which is an earlier model. The top link linkage on the cutter was designed to allow movement. I ran it with a QH using TnT.

I checked out some pics of the HX10 and it appears to have a similar setup to allow movement. Unless you are wanting to cut on some very uneven ground I don't think you will need to use a chain.

Sorry if that's not what you are asking about.

Thanks for your response. I hooked the HX10 up to my NH 6610S for first time and when I attempted to lift i though the top link was binding it and wouldn't allow it to lift. Front of cutter came up a few inches and stopped. Front tires also came off ground a few times. I probably have a hydraulic issue and/or cutter is too heavy for the tractor. I had just change hydraulic fluid and filter - lift is bouncy with light equipment.

The lift type of that cutter weighs over 2000lbs.
Are you sure it's binding and tractor is not reaching it's lift limit.
Tractordata says a Ford 3000 can lift 1700lbs at 24"

I bet it does get light on front end....and then some.
Can mower be converted into pull type?

I had it hooked to NH 6610S - 85 hp (engine). Yep, cutter weighs almost 2400 lbs. Still, I think I may have hydraulic issue. with the lift response and bounce. I changed the fluid and filter but could not find where the screen was - I've been told that can be a major issue if not cleaned. Thanks for your help.

I used mine on my M9540. If I removed the FEL I had to add 1,200lbs of suitcase weights on the front.

I never even tried it on my 3910.

On the 6610 what is the draft control set at? Is the draft control working?

A 3pt lift HX10 is A LOT of cutter hanging back there. You have to think about the fact how far back the weight is on a big cutter like that. It has leverage working against your tractor.

Not trying to be condescending, surely the OP knows which lever is Position Control and which one is Draft Control??

He said lift is bouncy with light equipment. If it is bouncing with light equipment, I am curious what the draft control is set at trying to eliminate one thing at a time.

Oh I agree. Just trying to not insult the OP by thinking he doesn't know the difference.

Your thoughts are valid and should be clarified. So we'll stand by to see what his response is. :)
