John Deere LA Steering Wheel Repair

The boys are restoring a 1941 JD LA for this year's Ag Mech project. The steering wheel is the original rubber coated wheel with multiple cracks and gaps. Would appreciate some advice on repairing the wheel to as near original as possible ie product, paint, durability, etc. Thanks in advance.

I've used epoxy on the wheels of my JD garden tractors with good results, PC-7, JB Weld, etc. Just apply, sand to shape & paint with a good quality spray paint. I use Rustoleum Semi-Gloss Black. ~~ grnspot

I remember years ago in the Gas Engine Magazine, there was a company that recovered them with new rubber. I'm not sure if this is the same company, and there are probably more, but this is the first one I saw, when I did a Google search.

Not cheap, but may be worth it..!!

Give a call to the Filsingers, 402-485-2275, Lanny Billings, 402-750-8809, or the Ridenhours at 513-988-0390. These people worked for J.D. during that time and are hard to find. Very knowlable, and know every part and piece assembled and where to get original and replica parts. Let me know the outcome and Lanny has a tractor that you may like if into this. If you have a hand crank, teach the kids about the thumb rule.
