I wadded a 144 and change on replacement starter in the LA115 as it croaked.
The Sun Gear broke in half, the c ring fell off and the spring and cap fell off after I pulled the starter off.
Wait it gets better!!
So anyway, I paid for shipping to the house from the JD warehouse when I was over that way to get the truck inspected the same day.
Wait it gets better still, I get the starter on the door step this morning
and the box looks Butts Ugly, really Butts Ugly!!
Not thinking about the condition of the box I open it up, Viola!!
Half the air bags they put in the shipping box to protect the starter in the
Briggs And Stratton box are blown out and the rest of them are just along for the ride.
I cut open the B+S box and pulled the starter out and it had some heavy packing
paper that saw better days.
The hot lead to the starter was broken away from the case and the copper wire that connects to the stator winding is pulled out of the starter shell and its not going to work.
SO I call the dealer and told the clerk what I found and she said I would have to call UPS to make a claim.
I then said; what am I suppose to do in the mean time as I am out a mule to do work with and I don't have a second one to use!!!!!!!!!
She said she would call UPS and see what could be done, SO she calls back and says the new starter will be on my doorstep on Wednesday morning. I said thank you very much for the help and I asked her if she wanted the damaged starter back and she said no, UPS did not want it either. So more scrap steel for me to sell sometime at the recyclers scrap yard.
The Samsonite Guerilla(s) must be working for UPS now!!!! Woe is me/us if the Christmas rush on shipping boxes has gone nuts. So score one for my JD dealer I guess.
I started shopping again and I stopped quickly.
The 1023R and 1025R were at a cruising altitude of between $16-$19,000 plus tax and delivery and or extended warranty etc.,etc, with or without a quick attach loader and a 60 inch mower.
SO anyway.........I have to find the electrical schematic for the starter wiring now.
