Price Check John Deere Model 40

[KC Model 40]

I need some opinions. My wife's grandmother is selling her late husbands John Deere Model 40 tricycle. I told her that I would like to buy it rather than see it leave the family because her husband meant so much to everyone. I want to offer her a fair price because she would probably take anything I offered. The tractor is a 1953 tricycle with good tires it has not been rebuilt or restored. A family member painted it a few years back but the paint is failing badly in places (peeling off of the hood). I would consider the tractor to be in good condition mechanically, for its age, with paint that needs to be redone. I am having trouble finding comparable tractors to base a value on, in that, the ones I find are completely and meticulously restored or are the more desirable variants, wide front etc. Thank you all for any light you can shed on the subject of the value of this tractor. Around here 1000 to 1500 would buy a 40t that runs and needs restoring.
