john deere mt engine stuck

My MT has sat in a barn for 15+ years and is recently starting to restore it. The first thing we tried to do is unlock the engine. It can be crank started so we took a cro bar and tried to turn it. Couldn't budge. Jacked up the rear wheels and try to turn from there. It moved a teeny bit but still nothing. Can someone help me please?

I would fill the spark plug holes with ATF and wait a few weeks. If that does not work, I would probably be looking at a teardown of the engine.

Oh, and one more thing. Make sure it is not a valve that is stuck. You don't want to go bending pushrods and such. You might be best off by pulling the head first.

Check out Yesterdays Tractors site. They have all kinds of tips for getting stuck engines freed up, and lots of info for restoring tractors. A little acetone mixed with that ATF makes it much more effective.

Hi! I think the best is Diesel or heating oil they act as penetrating oil fill at top dont put sparkplugs . But just try turn with or by hands. If after one or two days it dont turn remove head Good luck! Oldmech

I like to use transmission fluid and acetone. They work very well. After filling the cylinders wait 24 hours and try and work the crank back and forth. If it does not budge, wait another 24 hours and go at it again. It will eventually free it self.
I have freed up two engines this way. Both had been sitting over twenty years. Both had to be rebuilt. The scoring on the cylinder walls was too much for smooth running.....good luck....:thumbsup:

We always have used diesel fuel. Pull the plugs, fill both cyl. And let set for a week or two. If tires are inflated I would suggest pulling the tractor. Put your mt in a high gear so the engine will turn easer.
