My 4320 when it was not running correctly Dynoed at 45 at the PTO when it was supposed to be 41 and that was on 3 cylinders for the most part.

In a competive market where specs matter I don't think anyone is going to under rate their equipment.

Sure - have him demonstrate it on his dyno.

I think this has been consistantly proved wrong on TBN for JD, NH and Kubota. I believe that if you go looking you will see many posts that show that when someone actually tests, for instance loaders, that they perform better than the specs would suggest.

Loaders can be a little touchy... I think that the ratings aren't just for the brute force that a loader has, but also the amount that can be 'safely' handled, too. For example, while a 210 loader might be able to lift 1000 lbs, it sure would be risky without more mass and wheelbase behind it. The ground that you are on can be a huge factor to this; concrete would be different that uncertain ground.

Just my thoughts - definately subject to verification...

To answer your orig question on PTO HP, advertised vs actual.

If you go to http://tractortestlab.unl.edu/Deere%20test%20reports.htm they have a number of the larger tractor tests performed. They did not do the 5103 unfortunately.

For a 5105:

advertised pto is 45, actual test is 47.15 (at rated 540 rpm)

At rated tractor speed (pto rpm slightly higher), it drops back to 45.85. So looks like they advertise honest numbers, to be honest 2 hp is probably within the error band but it is good they pick a slightly lower number. I am sure with variables in each tractor, they are just playing it safe. 1-2 horsepower either way isn't noticable; to be honest I wish they gave torque ratings on tractor motors and pto, it is a more meaningful to know the torque than HP (torque does the work).

Good luck, you won't go wrong w/ the 5103..

Yes Deere does underestimate their power usually by a few hp. This has been proven time and again on dyno's and at the Nebraska power tests. The dealer that I deal with puts all of their new tractors on the dyno for an hour or more when they get them to make sure they are making the correct power. All the ones I have ever seen have been a couple or more hp above the advertised ratings.
