John Deere X720 need help - oil pressure light stays on

Greetings :jump:

The oil pressure light on my John Deere X720 came on, and I haven't been able to start my tractor since. I have changed the oil (which was black and thick when I drained it) and oil filter, but the oil pressure light still comes on and the tractor won't start. I checked the battery and that's not the problem. Any troubleshooting recommendations?

What do you hear when you turn on the key? anything?

How did you check the battery?

Did you drive it much/any after seeing the oil light come on?

Check the oil level.

If the pto is turned on the engine will not start, make sure the switch is pressed down. Make sure the brake is set too.

With the ignition in the on position and engine isn't running the oil light should be on. It should go out after the engine starts and builds up oil pressure.

You have to be clear on what you mean by "it won't start". Does that mean the engine cranks when you turn the key but won't start or does that mean it won't crank at all when you turn the key? By you saying you checked the battery, I'm assuming it's isn't cranking when you turn the key but I'm not sure. :confused3:

Those lawnmowers have safety switches on just about everything. As already mentioned, make sure you're in the seat, PTO(s) disengaged, in neutral, clutch pedal down, parking brake on, lights off, gloves on, helmet on, safety glasses on then turn the key.
