Anyone try out the new JD CTL with their mulching head? Martin Equipment is going to bring one out for a buddy to try out.

Hello Everyone,
I'm a TBN.com newbie and this is my first post, go easy on me fellas if I drop the ball. I've ben putting a pencil to the land clearing business and the tool of choice would be a track chassis w/ a Fecon head.
Mr. Ripntear, one question that has eluded me about the JD worksite pro/ mulching head MH60 is, who MFGs the head? JD? it looks like a Fecon painted black w/ a additional hydraulic cooler placed just over the mulching spool. That's not a good placement for that is it? Any way, if your buddy has any additional information on the JD head please post the findings.
One last thing, was that the New D-series CTL he was demoing?
FYI, check out the Forest Pkg. for the New D-series CTL @ GR Manufacturing | Welcome they are a JD approved custom job facility, it looks MEAN, approx. cost, additional $4800.00 Is it worth the cost? let me know your thoughts.
Thanks,
Mike

Hello Westshore Const.,
Thank you for responding to my post. Fecon you say, just curious, do you have any idea what is housed inside that metal box located above the cutting spool? I haven't seen that on a factory Fecon head, maybe it's a JD thing? If you have any intel, please share your knowledge.
One other thought, what's your take on adding a foresty protection pkg. approx. $4800.00 additional cost give or take on a JD 333 compact track loader used for land clearing? The reason I'm thinking the JD chassis is the right choice for me is that there is a dealer located here that sells & services commercial equipment. I'm all ears, please share your thoughts.
Thanks again,
Mike

That metal box holds an additional oil cooler. To be perfectly honest it is there because JD CTLs are notorious for poor cooling. Magnum (Bradco) mulchers also put these on specifically for the Deere machines. Why doesn't deere publish the capacity of their hydraulic oil resevoir? I think it's under 9 gallons-makes it interesting if you're trying to pump 34 gpm doesn't it?

I dont know of many people running the Deeres in the bush, as Dig said they are notorious for overheating. Im by no means a deere guy but the new D series is leaps and bounds better than the others by the looks of it.

This is the correct way to look at things!! Big pump capacities mean nothing if supply can't keep up with demand. Most people see a large number in front of GPM and think wow.

Bobcat and Case also fall in to this as well. I'm pretty certain that the Bobcat T320 only has a 4.3 gallon tank (pumping 37 gpm) and the case tank is only around 5 gallons (pumping 41 gpm). Extra oil velocity through hydraulic lines equals higher back pressure which equals more horsepower loss from the pump to the attachment and less actual useable hydraulic hp.

My JD 325 has an 8.75 gallon hydraulic tank. This is a standard flow unit.

Thanks. i knew it was just under 9 gallons. The high flow units still have the same tank.
