I got a jonsered 670 on ebay for a steal. Took it to an old logger, who really knows his way around a saw. He got it fixed up running great. I had a triaxle load of logs to cut up, I could get through a log or two, then the saw would start bogging down. I know this problem, air filter is clogged. So I pulled the cover off, the whole interior was full of saw dust. This happened to me several times till I said to **** with it and pulled out the 2050 and took care of the rest. I love the 670, its a beast, but this is annoying! If I am going to cut, I want to cut and not have to stop all the time fixing crap. Any ideas how to fix this? It didnt get the champ on the label for no reason. Help!

There are a couple of things you can try. First, put on a new chain or one that makes chips instead of dust. A 30 degree full chisel can clog up a saw pretty quick if not perfectly sharp. 2. See if you can replace the cotton fabric filter with a nylon mesh one. Seeing this saw is equivalent to the Husky 266-268, you may be able to find such a filter at a Husky dealership. 3. When you say "a log or two" are you meaning one or two cuts or one or two stems? If it is one or two cuts, check the muffler screen on the saw if it has not been already checked. This should not be happening to a healthy saw.

Check out the plastics on the saw too. Perhaps one of them isnt on right, or has a big chunk missing out of it allowing sawdust to get into the filter area???

You can also wrap the filter in panty hose...makes it easy to clean. But you might get cold without them on under your overalls........

When I say logs, I bought a triaxle load of logs a week ago, so I mean an entire log. It isnt just dust its chips. It doesnt have the fabric filter, it has a mesh filter, When it first happened I emptied all the chips out, took the filter out and blew it clean with some brake cleaner. I allowed it ample time to dry, put it back in and went back to cutting. A few logs later the same deal. I sharpened my chain a bit, cleaned out the filter again, and back to cutting. Same deal. I cleaned the filter one more time, and put a new total chain on it. 3/8 pitch. 2 logs later the same deal, so I gave up and pulled out the 2050. I cut the rest with it. I just put $120 into it getting it fixed up right, which it runs like a raped ape when the filter is clean, but its pretty apparent when it clogs. It seems like everything is intact where it should be. Idk, I am at a loss. Maybe some kind of gasket or something is missing...I am confused...

It sounds as if you are missing a chip guard. This is a stiff piece of rubber or synthetic that mounts just behind the chain brake spring on the clutch cover. The one that fits on a Husky 266-268 costs under 4 bucks. It acts as a mud flap on a car does and sort of looks like one only it deflects chips. My second guess if its on there, is that there is a fitment gap between your crankcase housing and your handle assembly. If this is the case, it would have to be taken apart and reassembled.

I took a good look at it today, there is a small hole in the case right behind the bar behind the chain cover. It looks as if its a machines hole, not something that shouldnt be there. My thought is maybe a plug is missing, or something of that sort to stop wood chips from entering the chamber with the air filter and carb. I ran the saw with the cover off and didnt have an issue at all. But with the cover on, that hole acts like a vacuum and sucks everything in. I was thinking about plugging it with some silicone, to stop this from happening. The chip guard is intact and where it should be, I think I will try to silicone and it see where I get, if worse comes to worse I can always drill it back out, seems like a silly place to put a breather hole. Oh well. Thanks for the help guys.

I had posted you a 670 IPL a few days ago elsewhere and it shows plugs etc. I'm not familiar with this saw so that's all I could do.
I know there is a bunch of loggers and guys there that ran that saw that could have helped you out though.
