And you have the scary videos to prove it... :)

Seriously, your videos show performance of some rugged terrain.

All the best,

Peter

Nice mod.
Gets the job done and that is what you are after.;)

But I still think the valve is faulty. Why? Because mine works fine :p

OK, this looks real good, but I can't quite understand the pictures. Could you take a few more. I want to add this to my machine and get rid of the bungee. Nice job.

That is all the pictures I can get. I took many more than I posted and the ones posted are the best. But all I did was place a washer against the joystick block , then a spring, another washer, and then a locknut. I like the stop collar but think the nut gives much more adjustment.

To set the spring tension all I did was push the joystick into float position and tighten the nut and spring assembly until it was snug then about a half turn more. That did it.

Hey swampman,
How does the joystick feel during all other operations? It seems like it would have a funny feel to it.

It is a bit tighter but I have full range of motion. Actually I like the tighter feel of it.

I bought a detent kit in 2007 and when I took it apart, the insides were very rusty and the new kit solved the float problem. However, I don't think that oil travels down to the bottom bowl very well and I should have primed it with oil. I say this because my PT started coming out of float again just last week. I took it apart and cleaned it and oiled it very well and should be ok now.

To let you all know, the kit was around $60 dollars in early 07 and now they want $108. The kit is easy to iinstall and doesn't require me to use bungees and other contraptions on my machine. Good luck.

I am glad someone spoke up on fixing the problem. The detent section is not supposed to have oil or hydraulic fluid in it. If it is rusty, water has entered into the bowl. The detent is a mechanical apparatus which is held in place by a spring. If it is not working, it is either rusty, spring is weak, or trash is in the unit. I would just clean it, oil it, and it should be good to go.

There we go! A repair, not a workaround. ;)

I prefer repairs over workarounds, unless, of course, I can't figure out how to repair it, then my workaround wins the silver medal. :D

I have never had a problem with my float but am glad that someone that has had a problem and fixed it has responded. I am glad that you mentioned the cost of the repair kit from pt company and also that the problem had reoccurred and that you had cleaned it and oiled it and put it back together and that it is working fine now. Since you have had first hand experience taking it apart and puting it back together, could you give a description of how you took it apart and what to expect if you do take it apart [any small parts that might fall out , gaskets that need to be watched out for or oring]. Seems like another poster posted a picture of it along time ago but can't remember which one it was. I am with you and JJ I think cleaning it out and oiling it most likly will fix the problem but if it still falls out of float then you might have to do a little tinkering with it to get it to work right.

Not sure if this will help in your case or not but, I just found out the rubber boot on my joystick has a 'front' and a 'back'. If it's on backwards, there is too much rubber in front of the joystick and it pushes the joystick back to neutral. Try lifting the rubber boot up out of the way and see if the detent works.

Good Luck
