It's that time of year when the juneberries (Saskatoons to our Canadian friends.) are ripening!:cool2: While I was mowing, my wife trekked up the hill and picked enough to make a couple juneberry-rhubarb pies. What an absolute delight to come in from a hot day mowing and be served fresh pie and ice cream! :licking:

Mother Nature sure has a good supermarket!

This is something new to me. Never even heard of them. I must be living under a rock!!:)

It looks simular to a blueberry.

What is the flavor of them? I heard that they were a bit more "seedy" then blueberrys. Its on my list of plants I would like on our property.

Amelanchier (/æməˈlænʃɪər/ am-ə-LAN-sheer),[2] also known as shadbush, shadwood or shadblow, serviceberry or sarvisberry, wild pear, juneberry, saskatoon, sugarplum or wild-plum, and chuckley pear is a genus of about 20 species of deciduous-leaved shrubs and small trees in the Rose family

I have never heard of juneberry's either, so I looked it up.. Serviceberry or Sarvisberry around here, depending if you are a towny or a countryboy. Saskatoon.. indeed.:) ha ha. Always interesting to hear what other people call things.

They taste very much like blueberries, only sweeter and bolder. If we were to make a blueberry-rhubarb pie, the rhubarb would overpower the blueberry. The juneberry can hold it's own.

Another good reason to not cut, slash and bulldoze every little shrub from your property. If you are clearing land, wait to see what everything is first, as you can find all sorts of little gems with a little patience. We prefer the "overgrown" look around our farm for this reason. Tasty treats and natural cures abound.

Juneberries seem to like growing on the edge of poplar stands, at least around here. That's where I would start looking.

They look like blueberries that grow on 6-8ft trees.
