I have come to despise the pricing structure on AVTs. Probably no different than on cars, but at least on cars the incidental charges are included before the price is totalled (except for the Scotch Guard and paint sealant, which I always refuse to pay for).

Priced a Yamaha Bruin 250. List price is $3499. By the time they added sales tax, freight, set up and documentation fees, the total price was over $4100.

For me, psychologically, it would be better if they just said $3899 + Tax.

Anyone else think this bites? Also, for this particular ATV (or a similarly priced one), does anyone have any idea what a fair (to both the dealer and me) out-the-door price would be? I was quoted $3800 and don't know if I'm being hosed or if this is reasonable.

Isn't it built in Newnan Ga? For a short drive across Alabama to here you can save about $1300.

Don't pay any of that crap. I bought a new honda foreman last year and refused to pay it, and I bought a new king quad last week and did the same. They were asking $7599 plus freight and dealer set up fee, etc for a total of 8k. I got it for $6400 out the door. These ATV places don't sell a lot and they get a TON of tire kickers. Let them know you are serious about buying. I did some research on the net and found the best price I could, and then walked into the dealer with 64 hundred dollar bills and layed them on his desk. I told him I will give you 6400 for it now, or I am buying elsewhere. He said you drive a hard bargain and he sold it to me.

I've bought several ATVs from one dealer who always starts at the list price, takes off a couple of hundred without asking, adds tax (unavoidable unless an agricultural purchase), and that's it. I've had other dealers quote freight, set-up, etc which to me are just a cost of doing business. I'd shop around as dealers vary considerably.

As for the "flash the cash" approach, that is always effective with private sellers but may not always work for dealers. Under some arrangements, dealers make money on the financing -- in fact, for some car deals, the financing is the only profit.
