O.K. here it goes...sorry for the novel!

I bought this JD 2210 about 3 months ago from a dealer. It had 131 hours on it and looks new. I've put 81 hours on it with no problems, until yesterday.

Here is where stupid comes in:(

I bought a filter pack for it and changed the oil and filter, tansaxle fluid and filter, and the primary air filter soon after I got it home. The kit came with a fuel filter but I figured I'd wait until the 200 hour service to do that (as scheduled). BIG MISTAKE..

While operating last night the tractor picked up a vibration. It went from normal to a noticable vibration instantly. I throttled down and up a few times, yep, it's got a vibration. Not shaking me out of the seat, but noticable.

I ran it up to the garage to get some light (only about 100 ft) and started checking everything I could think of and all seemed fine.

After reading the service manual it calls out the fuel filter first and I figured I have one and I'm at 212 Hrs that would be a good place to start this morning.

The guy who owned it before me had used an aftermarked oil filter and (it now appears) an after market fuel filter. The $%#%# bottom of the filter is plastic and has an irregularly shaped hole in it:eek: I'm not sure if this is how it was made or if it broke. The new filter has a solid metal bottom. There is a "pedestal" in the bottom of the fuel bowl that might have gone into this hole but with it's odd shape and hard plastic I can't see how it could have sealed. It appears that it would have allowed all of the fuel to bypass the filter completely.

There was a little water in the bottom of the bowl and some brown gummy stuff, not much though. What there wasn't is any trace of the (possibly missing) white plastic bottom.

The service manual skips over the injector pump as off limits and says if there's a problem with it to install a rebuilt one. It does cover the disassembly and cleaning of the injectors.

How screwed am I? The engine runs and has good power but that vibration is still there. I've only run it enough to check if replacing the filter helped, if it did, it wasn't much. I did add a solid dose of Power Service diesel treatment. Hey, it MIGHT work!

Is this something that could pass through the system, should I check/clean the injectors, or should I put it on a trailer and get it to the dealer.

Thanks for any advice you have for me!

I SHOULD HAVE REPLACED THAT &%#$) FUEL FILTER:mad:

KML, what you are holding is the filter from the "water seperator" I'm not familar with your model tractor, but the three other Deere's that I've had all have a spin on fuel filter in addition to the filter you have in the picture. I would look for it and change it out also.

Below is a pic of a water seperator from one of my Deere tractors and it is open on the bottom. I know what you are saying though about the new filter you got being made of metal and enclosed on the bottom. I think you will get a quicker and better response to your questions if you repost in the "Deere Operating" thread.

KLM, I just looked at Deere Parts Site and the only fuel filter I can find listed or shown on your 2210 is the one you show in the pic. I guess it does not have a spin on in addition to the water seperator filter.

Sorry I wasn't any help.

Dirt, you were a help! I appreciate you taking the time to look into it. I think you might be right about posting in the JD forum, I'll give it a liitle more time here and then give that a try.

I'm hoping it's just a little piece of something obstructing an injector but having never been inside of an injector pump I don't know that it could pass something big enough to obstruct an injector with out being damaged itself.

Just ran it a little more, warmed it up and put a load on it , the throttle response is normal, there is no smoke, strange noises, or lack of power, but it still has a vibration.

I have some pretty big projects going on around the house that if I don't get finished up before we get rain I'll have a BIG mess. Like 40 ton of fill running down my hill:(

I'm thinking about just running it and taking my lumps if it was the wrong choice.....

I'm not normally this impatient but I'm having surgery on my hand Tuesday morning so I don't think there will be much stone work in my future for a little while. I pretty much have this weekend to get this done.

Well, it is what it is....

Thanks again!
