I've been hunting the same property for 5 years now, it's about 125 acres and I really haven't walked the entire property yet. Most of it is in planted pines with lots of hollows and big mature oaks that were untouched during the clearcut some years ago. There are also lots of gulley's and ravines throughout this property. Last Saturday I was walking around there and came across a gulley I hadn't seen before, and when I looked down into it, to my surprise there were three old cars lying in it. There was a 1954 Plymouth, a 1955 Chevy Belair 2 dr HT, and a 1958 Chevy Belair 2 dr HT in the gulley. These cars are roached out, but man, 20 years ago it might have been worth the effort to try and retrieve them, but now it would take an act of congress and a Sikorsky helo to airlift them out. The Plymouth still has the motor and tranny in it, but the two chevy's don't have motors. The Plymouth is the one upside down. Hard to see it in the picture, but it looks like in the past that coyotes have used the area between the Plymouth and the red Belair as a den. It forms a tunnel in between them, and the dirt inside it looks hardpacked and worn, and there are some trails going up the sides of the gulley. Thought some of you might enjoy the story.

Neat!

We bought 20 acres about 30 years ago. Last week was the 2nd time I've been able to get to the back corner. The first was when we bought. I found an old phone line insulator and a castor oil bottle that weren't broken. Lots of little brown jugs, but all were broken.

Don't ya wonder how/why they ended up there?

I left a 66 Chevy Impala fastback turned upside down in a kudzu field beside a house my sister used to rent. I can't even remember why I didn't want to fix it to drive but I had a 54-1/2 PU I wanted to use the powerglide in so I hooked a chain to it and flipped it on it's roof to pull the trans. I remember the roof collapsed to the door sills as it rolled over. I had that car on two wheels several times when it was my daily driver so to see the roof structure collapse so easily was an eye opener. The trans was still working great when I sold the truck.

Fun find! There is a county park not far from us where we'd take the scouts. On a more remote trail, there were a few cars, much like your photo. A couple of years ago they were gone, might be worth something in scrap?

Makes you wonder about how they got there. ..When I was a kid we had a large section of woods behind our house. Lots of old rock walls etc. On one of my adventures I remember stumbling across about 5 or 6 old cars all grouped up in a small clearing. .. it's been 40+ years now...can't really remember what they were.

The bumpers look pretty good and who knows how many parts might be salvaged under the hood. Plus there could be some real treasures [or bodies] in the trunks.

But as mentioned above, I always wonder how cars get left like this. They would have been worth something even as scrap back when they were abandoned so I always wonder why someone would throw them away. Could they have been stolen? Plus picture the day they were brought there -- someone went to a good bit of trouble to do this so again I wonder what the scene was all about. Could there have been a house or farm close by so this was just the handiest place to leave them? Might be fun to ask around if you can find some old timers handy.

Maybe the person who owns the property can shed light on the past history of the vehicles. Remote locations are always subject to the abandonment of our junk and debris. Its more a situation involving the cost of approved disposal than any great mystery.

Speaking as a person who was intimately involved in the proper disposal of junk autos - I'm surprised that there aren't a lot more autos "junked" at that location.
