Sounds like you scratched your cornea. I've scratched both of mine on several occasions. Hurts like the dickens too. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif If the scratch isn't too deep, it will heal pretty fast. It will help to get some eye drops from your eye doctor to avoid infection. There are a lot of blood vessels under the surface of the eye, so it should heal fairly rapidly. If it's going to take a few days to heal, you might want to wear an eye patch, so you can carry on your usual routine without the distraction of double vision.

I'm with you - the patch over one eye will also relieve some of the pain and the strain.

My dog scratched my cornea one day while we were playing around - hurt like heck too. I spent a few days looking like halloween in July.

People also stay away from you when you wear a black patch over one eye /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Thanks all for the well wishes. Went to the Doctor yesterday and it is a slight corneal abrasion and a bruise of the lower eye socket. Got some ointment to put in to the eye and told just to let it rest. Feels a lot better already and the swelling has gone down quite a bit. Have some reading to catch up on, since I only made some small pit stops in the past few days.
