I know the answer :Hire a yard service and a plow service.

But

Why don't they build a tractor for us older folks who've moved into one of those manicured alotments? The ones with more yard than we want to mow with a walk behind but way less than an acre. We're the ones who want a great cut but want to spend less than 10 grand. The ones who don't want to look like a farmer who made a wrong turn who instead of mowing the back forty, looks like he is trying to mow a residential lawn with a harvester. The ones who want to plow 12 inch snowfalls off a couple hundred feet of paved driveway, don't want to ever get stuck, but don't want to look like a city plow truck on the take doing the councilman's drive.

You know, the ones who don't need a FEL, no garden so no need to to break the ground. No cattle, no horses, not even the gentleman farmer kind, so no need to drive fence posts or move horse poo around.

Something one can store in the half of a two and a half car garrage. Built like a Mac truck and powerful like a tank, but small and dependable and under 10 grand.

Steiner used to fill this niche but now they and Ventrac make CUTS look small and they cost more more than 15k. Power Tracs are jacks of all trades, but they do none well. besides the FEL we don't need they mow and plow not so swell.

So instead of the pleasure of doing it ourselves, I guess we're stuck hiring it out and sitting in tractor wanna be ****.

Thanks for the link. That's what I thought too. But a lawn tractor just wont plow my drive. A friend even tried with his locking differential JD and although he got it done, he had to put on chains and they didn't do my drive any favors. I guess I'm just complaining that there are no small 4x4 mowers anymore. It's not just the expense, it's that they've gotten so big. Although not 4wd, take the JD. The new JD5xx is considerably larger than an old 4xx and the 4xx version today is the incredibly large 7xx.

I mowed an acre & a half for many years (since 1978) with a 1973 JD110 w/38" mower until the deck gave way. Now mow with a newer 48" JD but still snowblow my 150' driveway with the 110 / 38" snowblower. That said, my backup for snowbank adjustments is a Case 580 which is a little big for 2.1 acres but very handy never the less. MikeD74T

Sounds like you want a small scut like a Kubota BX 1860.
