hi all,

Neighbor of mine just gave me his 1995 STX38 that he bought new, in California. He moved here to southern Arizona in 2006 and the tractor has sat outside ever since. It looks pretty weathered but I think I can resurrect it. It needs a new hood, seat, battery so far that i can tell, and maybe some tires too. I am not at all familiar with these little tractors, so can any of you tell me about stuff I should know regarding these? Also, I keep seeing things like certain parts referenced as "Yellow Deck" model & "Black Deck" etc. What are the primary differences besides the colors of the decks on these tractors. I was looking at getting a new seat for it, but the ad on eBay said fits yellow deck stx38 only. So since mine has a black deck, what do I do for a seat replacement? Also, what if mine was originally a yellow deck, but then the deck was damaged & replaced with a black one? Or is that even possible?

Appears the black deck seats are high back, and the yellow deck seats are low back.

The part no. for the black deck seat is AM134955, and about $225 at the Green Parts store (they are $300 at Amazon.com).

The part no. for the yellow deck seat is AM106109 and about $96 at the Green Parts store, and $135 at Amazon.

You can go to jdparts.com and get all the parts for the STX38 to come up, and it may help you sort out the differences in the black deck and the yellow deck models.

And in just 10 years, likely didn't need to replace the deck so probably the black one is original. Serial numbers will come up on jdparts too, so they can be compared with the s/n you have when identifying parts.

Thanks for the reply, I really appreciate it! Also, thanks for that link to jdparts.com too. There's a few vendors on ebay selling high and low back seats for these tractors, and often different vendors will have conflicting information in their ads. Seems odd, no?
