Ok, typical post.
I just bought a used 1993 1715 with Woods 750 backhoe and 7108 loader, 900 hours, about a 7.5 on the 1 to 10 scale. Paid 13,500 plus tax (7%). Manual tranny. 4WD.

Gets delivered on Fri or Mon. Bought it from a dealership. Seems like it's all there and working. Anything special I should know? Common problems? Do's...Don'ts? etc.
Thanks,
JohnnyB

Make that delivery day Wed. they are putting a new clutch in. When they checked it out they didn't like the way the clutch felt so they decided to put in a new on before delivery...I got no problem with that /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

OH boy, I wish you would have posted before you bought. That tractor has a long list of items that are bad. Clutches are always going out about once every 100 hours. The transmissions keep locking in 3rd gear and you can't get them out without the dealer splitting the tractor. The back wheels/splines are notorious for breaking and the front wheel drive locks in all the time and then you can't turn very easy. Other things such as poor starting and injector lines breaking. The list just keeps going on and on on the tractor. Oil pans leak and New Holland just can't come up with a fix for it. The big ticket is the clutches and you can expect to buy a new one once a year. They run about $1,250 installed so that is a yealy expense. For some reason too they have had problems with the injector pump. All of a sudden you will run threw 6 gallons of fuel in about two hours of run time. White smoke you will see coming from the exhaust.

Actually I am just kiddin with ya. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif It is a good rig and you will be happy with it. Welcome to TBN. And we will need more pics when you get her home. And it looks like you got a good price on it.

Geez Murph; You had me thinking my neighbor upnorth had a lemon or something. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif His doesn't do any of those things either. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Thats sure a clean looking machine! I've got a 1710, similar.

I sure like those older Fords, simple, bullet proof, and very easy to maintain. An operators manual is a good thing to have for general maintenance and adjustments. You're gonna like that tractor. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Oh yeah, Murph got my attention too! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I was working out solutions in my head before I even finished reading your post /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

This must have been my initiation as a new member /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Thanks for putting my mind at ease at the end....I seriously wouldn't have been able to sleep otherwise.

Man I wish I was a fly on his computer screen when he read that!! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif I can just imagine the smile he had on his face, so proud of the new machine and the his smile gradually disapearing as he read my post. I just couldn't help it. And even though I do feel bad I did it. Hope there is no hard feelings from anyone.

And I still want to see pictures of the machine when you get her home. Also it may help to fill out your profile so we all know your whereabouts.

Welcome to TBN.

Dang, no hard feelings at all. I love a good ribbing. I turned right around an used your trick on my wife....and I got to see that worried look until I told her I was kidding /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I've been watching this forum for a while, great bunch of guys (as tractor people often are) and a tremendous source of knowledge. I would have never considered the Ford without reading some of the input available here. ( I thought I must have missed all those problems in my searches DOH!).

Now I'll be needing advice on Backhoe operation.

Even the guy I bought it from had a sense of humor...when I asked if he had anything smaller he said..."Yeah...a shovel".

Should be here Weds. I'll post picks of it doing something scary, ill advised or humorous....hopefully on purpose /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
Thanks again for the input.
