Just bought an RSB1301 tiller, any thoughts?

Heard that a neighbor had a random tiller for sale, went to take a look, and lo and behold it's a genuine grey market Yanmar! It fit my 1610D perfectly and the gearbox turns smooth as silk so I bought it. Anyone have any experience with the RSB1301? There's quite a few knobs and levers and I'm experimenting with what they do. Looks like it was made for the FX model years, so a couple years newer than my tractor.

I used a RS1400 for yrs. before I no longer need it. I don't see anything on the tiller itself that isn't pretty much straight forward and the same. Wheel height and Drive shaft length is about it. What I would check on is the 1610 3Pt. lift contols. Fredricks outdoor should be able to get or give you everything you need as far as info. on it. I had new tines and that was the only thing that had any wear to or on it when I sold it. Very little though. With the new tines it sure worked extremely well for my mothers small Garden. 1st. turn of the Yr. in the Pic.. With the tines in good shape still I sold it for what I paid for it Yrs. later on CL. in 3days.

You may need the top link bracket. If the tiller hits your rear wheels lifting it for sure. It makes the tiller move out then up. Hard to come bye and sent these pics. to another member who made one. But they work great.

Luckily it did come with the original bracket and short link, although it didn't seem to need it to clear the wheels in the raised position so that's how i brought it home. I may need it for actual tilling though, good to know what that thing is.

EDIT: Now that I look at the bracket, it seems to reference a quick hitch (クイックヒッチのタイプQUICK-175) system. I wonder if there were multiple versions - one for quick hitches and one for regular...need to translate a bit more. It's entertaining figuring this out!

That's it!! Same thing. What It looks to be showing is how to set the top link up. When the Tiller is down the top link needs to be short enough to pivot and point down.
Out and Up. That way when the 3pt. arms lift the tiller it causes the Top link to go push the tiller away."swing out" from the wheels then it will pivot up. Your see how it goes now.:thumbsup:

My thoughts ... You are one LUCKY DUDE.

I ALMOST bought one from Fredircks when they had them posted on CL totally refurbished for $850 to $900. BUT, the job moved and I had to move several states away. I really should have, could have, and would have done it, but it slipped on by.

In WI, people know Yanmars, but it's a very RARE thing to see any. In KY, there are MANY Yanmar dealers. I was happy to see the new machines.

Told Spalding I was looking for one and Steve told me of one at Fredricks but I would have to go get it. 1.5 hr. drive for me so not that bad. I needed to get a few things for the 2000 also. little things for only a couple dollars. Friction plate for the throttle, Control Lever knob. Drain plug. That finished me up for the 2000 that it needed. And the 1400 Tiller @650.00$ Yup! just missing the rear wheel setup. Which he assured me I didn't need. My mother loved it. Her Garden plus no more walk behind that doesn't do nearly as good of a job!!

Thanks all for the input - I see how the bracket is used now, there's a swinging motion rather than a level lift needed to get the angles right. Now i'm looking for a PTO shaft (the one thing it didn't have, the short driveshaft). Don't think I'll be able to fit a slip clutch, though these swept-back tines are very different than what I'm used to and I've heard they mostly ride over objects.

I do feel luckier by the minute looking at this thing and how well it's engineered. The guy only wanted $300 for it.
