Just bought an RSB1301 tiller, any thoughts?

If I recall reading about it on here. Which is a good problem to check for and may have never been done is to grease the Tine shaft Bearing. Mine was in bad need of cleaning and Grease. I heard there not any fun or easy task to replace if they go bad. A good bit of water came out. Dirty Rice patty was my guess. Which IMO. it was much easier for me to check and clean than have to replace it.

why so hard, you don't have to take shaft apart to get to it? Taking my cover off tomorrow, see if i can't replace w/ sealed bearing? Need to find filler plug(plastic one w/ o-ring) on long side. Anyone know what size it is, and can't you use a short bolt w/ o-ring ? Thanx

Thinking you have a 1403 tiller, I know the outer bearing on an RS1404 is a 6208.

Long ago Buck, a gray market importer at the time (EFC), said ALWAYS replace that offside bearing with a sealed bearing on any tiller that was initially used in the rice paddies of Japan. He said he had seen too many housings chewed up making the tiller worthless, caused by rusty seized bearings.

Access is simple, just remove the cover.

The gear (chain) end of the axle gets lubricated continually so it's not likely to be a problem.

what brand is that number winston1, an allballs or yanmar? Also, the yanmar oil plug(fill)# that i got is 195230-12190. Should just try and match something up to it.

If i take the chain side cover off, do i need a new gasket or material for one? I always like to have what i need for replacements, before i get started on a project. When i pulled plug, it had about a qt., or so of water(which is to be expected) and a glob of old muck for oil. Want to inspect seals, gears, bearings and maybe clean everything before closing it back up. Thanx to all for the help, i try to find the info. before i ask, but sometimes it's btr. to ask again(to get links of the matter). May you all be safe and remember our soldiers and children on this day.

6208 is the identification number for any bearing manufacturer, all you need is to request a double sealed bearing. Manufacturers do use different suffixes for identifying seals, or shields. This is Hoyes number for that bearing. BEARING _: Yanmar Tractor Parts

I have never taken the side cover off. If you are lucky your old gasket might not tear up and maybe a dab of sealant and you would be good to go. I am sort of doubting you will find that gasket anywhere but that is only my guess. Might have to cut one if it tears up.

Or just use silicone sealant or gasket maker. There is nothing wrong with useing just silicone. Done right it works perfect. Is designed so that we can get away from gasket paper that does leak more often due to not actually making a tight bond. And the stuff ha been in use for decades. And I agree, there is about zero chance you will find that gasket.
