Just bought a 1980 B7100 w 900hrs, OEM loader and OEM Backhoe (B219 and B670, respectively), $6500. Ebay from Ohio, I live in MD so it cost about $350 more for the trailer, motel, gas money. Everything works fine except leaks in the swing cylindars for the BH. Oh, the 3pt hitch is missing pieces (only top link is available)
So....I am considering a full-blown overhaul of this beast, ripping everything down, repainting and re-assembling, bit by bit. Plan to start first with the BH as I am looking at doing my own excavation for an addition on my house, to begin in the spring.
Questions to begin with:
1. Any good general texts on tractor restoration anybody likes? I am quite new to hydralics.
2. How about a good shop manual? Where can they be best bought? I previously rebuilt a Kubota Z500 from my sailboat, so am not shy about digging in. In particular, I'd like to check the valve clearances right off.
3. Likewise, I need manuals/parts lists for my BH and FEL, both of which came to me undocumented.
4. Does it usually work out better to re-build a leaking cylindar or to replace it?
5. Some of these hoses look tired and checked. What is the lifespan of a hose.
6. Front tires have clearly rotting sidewalls. Anybody got a thrifty way to approach this?
Anyways, it's great to join the land of tractored people. I live on a small (1.5ac.) wooded lot, so the B7100 is likely to be sufficient tractor for me for a good long time, and at 47years old I suppose it could outlive me. Hence my enthusiasm for bringing the girl back into her prime.
