I'm excited. Friday is the Old Fiddler's Contest and Reunion in Athens, TX. Fiddle players from all over the U.S. come annually to compete for the prize of best fiddler. A Texas tradition since 1932. It'll start early in the morning, and the music doesn't die down til around midnight. In the evening there will be a street dance. I think the final judging and prizes are usually given out by 5 or 6 p.m. Tons of impromptu jam session around the courthouse square. The music is a pretty big variety of Texas Swing, old country, bluegrass, gospel, etc. Fiddlers of all ages will compete. Plus the usual assortment of carnival rides, craft booths, great food, etc. Bring your blanket or lawn chairs and join us!
