I was looking up at the sky tonight and the sunset picture thread came to my mind and I thought I grab my camera and head down the road and get a good pic from the top of the hill over our corn field.
I didn't get very far when I came upon a police cruiser and some flashing lights. I could see a tractor behind the line up of cars and I pulled over and got out to investigate.
Turned out our neighbour down the road had broken an axel on a full gravity box of corn as he was pulling out on the road and it had tipped over and was partially blocking the road.
Not sure why it broke. It's rated for 14 tons (the wagon) and it only had about 7-8 tons of corn in it. The police were pretty helpful, but since they were city cops they were kind of clueless (they had called for a tow truck for one, when we had lots of machinery around to work it out) and for some reason it took three cruisers and 4 cops to figure it all out. They all seemd to disappear quick when it was apparent lots of shoveling needed to be done. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Anyway, here's a few pics.

Here you can see just how far the wheel flew/rolled from the wagon into the field beside the road.

We used the auger and shovels to pick up most of the corn that was still in the box and used the loader and shovels (carefully to avoid getting and dirt or rocks mixed in) to pick up the rest. Overall not all that much corn was lost.

Once the corn was out of the box we chained it to the loader of the Versatile and lifted it back up on it's side. Then we lifed the front end off the ground and pulled it back to the yard off the road. I've got more pictures of mostly the same but none of the salvage and recovery work as I was too busy working. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
