I have just joined the site. I have a tough little 180D that I use on 30 acres I bought with my son just North of Austin, TX -- little town of Liberty Hill. This little guy (tractor, not son) will tackle just about anything I sic it on.

Right now I have what I believe to be a fuel problem. It just stopped out in the middle of a pasture where I had it under a medium load grading over an old burn pile. After letting it rest a few minutes it would crank back up, then die again. I am suspicious of filter -- I should have new one tomorrow, but any other suggestions of places to look would be appreciated.

My auto mechanic suggested that there may be an inside the tank filter of some sort that could be clogged. Does anyone know if there is such a thing on this model?

not sure about any tank filter:confused: other than the screen that sets into the filler hole, my 1700 does have a tank shutoff valve, I suppose this valve could get stopped up with something causing the fuel not to flow, the best way to tell is to remove the line from the valve and see if anything is flowing?
just a thought:cool:

A classic problem on Yanmars is if you screw the fuel cap on too tight it will eventually suck a suction and no more fuel will go down the hose. Check this first.

I doubt there's an in tank filter. Try looking for vacuum lock like Cali said, and its always a good idea to change the filter and clean the bowl at least 1-2 times a year depending on use.

Every internal combustion engine needs the fuel filter replaced fom time to time. WIX 33263, NAPA 3263.

Had a similar problem on my 226. Was running a box blade on the driveway and lost most of my power after running for a couple hours. Problem ended up being some dirty fuel from the local CO-OP. Drained and filtered the fuel from the tank, replaced the fuel filter and cleaned the fuel bowl, and she ran normal after that. I should have bled the injector lines but didn't so it took her a while to fire back up.

Thanks to all of you for your help. I think I have a good place to start -- simplest first. Fuel bowl new filter and cleaning a definite regardless, of what else is found.
