The point of the spare bulbs/lamps is that if you have one out DOT can hit you with an out of service order - which means you park it where it sits until it's fixed. Or have it towed.

$50 bucks worth of bulbs is cheap insurance.

Along with that, under CSA 2010, points on your license until you reach a certain level (60 points?) and then wave bye bye to your CDL.
