Just shootin' the bull - can a 2160 AGS be converted to hydrostatic?

I've got a 2160 that I bought new. The AGS hasn't been any trouble for me at all in more than 10 years of ownership. Since joining this forum, I've read that the AGS doesn't have much of a reputation, but the hydrostatic system seems to be good, in most people's opinion.

So, grab yourwself a beer (there's some cold Molson, Corona, and Yuengling in the fridge - it's a NAFTA thing), and throw in your comment...can a AGS be converted? What would it take to do that? Anyone ever hear of it being done?

All things are possible, given enough time and money, but as a practical matter, I don't think it could be done at a reasonable cost. I bought one of the AGS Cubs in 1995, on the recommendation of a salesman, and because it was $400 cheaper than the hydrostatic. It served the purpose, but if I had it to do over again, I'd spend the other $400.

Swapping the entire rear wouldn't be a problem, but you'd need the whole linkage assemby as well for the F and R pedals. It should be all bolt on stuff though. Hey if the AGS works for you, keep it as is! Once you go foot pedal hydro, there's no going back to 'gears' for cutting grass!

Oh, I'm not even considering changing out the transaxle on my 2160. It was just a question if it's ever been done. I've been pretty happy with the performance so far.
