I am trying to help out a friend with an older tractor a JX60.
I know that the injection pump was recently rebuilt.
Now it puts pressure into the power steering fluid tank. I ran it for a short time and could see the fluid shooting up into the tank like it was backing up from the pump. When I checked the engine oil it was very thin, like it has diesel or more likely hydraulic fluid in it. He said it has been using a heap of power steering fluid recently. After replacing the fuel injection pump he is not willing to spend any more money on the tractor, so is about to sell it.
If I could understand what is going on I would like to try fix it for him.
The only connection I can see between the fuel injection pump and the power steering is the case where the timing gear isconnected to the fuel injection pump. Does anyone think the new pump and this power steering problem could be related?
Or does it soung like a failed seal on just the power steering pump itself?
Thank you for any input.
