I have a John Deere lawn tractor model L111 picked it up from a guy for 20 bucks. It only had 340 hours on it with a bad Hydrostatic transmission.
I found this website which led me to the tough torque factory. I replace the broken drive gears and rebuilt the hydraulics pump as disceribed on one of the forums. Actually the drive gear was the only part broken on the tractor which started and ran fine.
I ran the tractor for one complete season and absolutely loved it. When the next season came around I noticed oil on the floor of the garage floor under the right side transmission. so I ordered two axel shaft seals, the right side which had leaked the fluid out.
I ran the tractor one time. When I came back the next day the fluid had leaked out again.
I was told by tough torque that this is a K 40 transmission not a K 46 anyhow at this point the lawn tractor has been on jackstands for the past season. I am frustrated and not wanting to throw this tractor out but the cost of the axle shafts or bottom half of the gear case is quite expensiveand. I've already got over 350+ dollars into this transmission.
I don't have The wherewithal to pull this transmission apart anymore.

What can we say? You either fix it or junk it. It is up to you. It is not going to repair it self. If you are tired of messing with it, then sell it as is where is with the leak, and take the loss. OR.. man up and tear into it again, or get a mechanically inclined friend to help with possible a new set of eyes, and new ideas. In any case staring at it and cussing it, and its makers wont get it repaired. YOU have to do something.

Now I haven't told you anything you don't already know. So get out there and fix that dang thing.:)

I was just tryin' to draw out the chuckle a bit longer... It' hard when you gotta 'buck' up literally and figuratively!

Just hope it ain't 'good money, after bad'..
