I have a new Kama 454 with about 30 hours on it. I have been very happy but just had a major issue. I had the clutch engaged and heard a pop. The clutch will now not disengage either stage. (hydo and driveline) I have taken off the small access plate on the side and you can see the fork moving to disengage the clutch. I am lost. Any direction will be appreciated!!! Thanks!

does it feel like it is real easy to push the pedal now? If so you probably busted the fingers off where the throw out bearing pushes on the pressure plate

When you say "will now not disengage either stage", does that mean it's stuck in gear? What happens when you try to shift it into neutral?

The PTO spline does normally make sympathetic revolutions when disengaged. You can stop it easily by hand. Are you positive that the PTO is actually being gear driven with the clutch pedal released?

Have you checked the clutch pedal return spring underneath the left floorboard? It's just held in place by a small bracket and a single bolt.

KMs have three fingers that the throw out bearing pushes on, If you can see/reach in with a screwdriver (engine off) and see if any of the three fingers are broken or feel loose or like they are not connected. I recently heard of one that did the same thing and it was a broken bolt. If one of the fingers does not pull off, a one edge of the pressure plates will maintain pressure on the disks and not fully disengage...

The fingers generally don't break but what can happen is
if the hinge bolt bind nuts are not checked and perhaps
LOCTITEd or peened they can work loose and fall off.
If that happens the hinge bolt for the throwout arm will
fall out. If that happens you'll hear a "pop" and just
like "Bluechip" says you'll have enough bind to lock
up both clutches. When I set up tractors for my customers
I always check the clutchs for adjustment and then
"peen" the ends of the bolts so this doesn't happen.
Any good dealer should do this during setup. If this
has happened, depending on the access port size on the
KAMA you may have to split the tractor to reassemble the
release mechanism..

Graham,
These release arms pivot on pins that are held in place by cotter pins, not bolts with nuts. Recent Jinma clutches I've seen, as well as those on some non chinese tractors, have been the same, am I not understanding your post correctly?

We have not seen it necessary to locktite or "peen" anything in the clutch assembly, (and do consider ourselves to be a good dealer non-the-less), although the KAMA in quesiton here is not one of ours... I don't think dealer prep is a factor here.

I will admit that our own experience with clutch failure on KM tractors has been totally non-existant thus far.

Sorry, didn't mean to say "hinge bolt" I meant "tension bolt"
Please see diagram. I had a few tractors returned some years
ago when the tension bolts had lost the nuts and I've peened
them ever since. See the attached file

Thanks for all the info!!! My mechanic said it was a broken bolt on the finger. This also bent a spring. Now the chanllange is getting the part under warranty from china. Does anyone stock these parts?

I have written little in the forum but read it daily. You guys help me make my decision. Even with this small problem I would not alter my decision. Thanks!!

Go buy the bolt and spring. I wouldn't wait if you don't have a dealer to support warenty parts.
