That, and I usually find I can just do it myself quicker, cheaper and more efficiently then trying to run someone down to do it, as they never seem to need work at the times when it is easy to get others to do it.

Ain't that the truth!
The other thing is self satisfaction and knowing if it's done right. Especially a mickey mouse fix like this, most shops would not even want to do it. Then I would worry if indeed he put it where it should be...

I really liked the 'multi-tasking' use of the farm jack. I always think about lifting things 'UP' with a jack. Never thought of using the jack in reverse.

I'll file that idea for future reference.

Farm jacks.. most of em anyway.. can be used to pull as well... IE.. fence stretcher. Kinda clumsy to do it.. But I've put up many strands of barbwire with one. On most of them there is a top finger that folds down.. hook it to your wire.. hook the bottom finger/lip to a post past your pull... start jacking and tightening.. front of jack and wire must also be past your corner post... staple in place then wrap wire when done..

A small length of chain with hooks helps keep the base of the jack on the pulling post.
