I can't get my PTO lever to engage on my Kama TS354. I have a front end loader and a backhoe attatched /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Do you mean the lever won't go to the 540 or the 1000 rpm speed? Or are you saying it's in gear but won't turn?

With the two stage clutch, it may not be fully disengaging.

Hi, you have 2 levers on your ts354c you must engage. The first one is by your left foot and up position is engaged. If your loader is working it is engaged. The second one is left side rear. This one is your pto rpm speed selector. I think forward is 1000 rpm and back is 540 rpm. Center position is out of gear. Most implements use 540 rpm.

It is the small lever by my left foot that won't go into the up position. My manual says to try draining the strainer but I can't figure out where that is?
My mechanic has dropped over and we ended up taking off the hydraulic unit to expose the gears below. The spline had a small burr where it was trying to engage so we knocked it ahead a bit and then back to get rid of the burr. We started it up and watched the spline engage and found after the clutch was in it was good to count off 3 seconds so the revolutions slowed down and then the lever would engage no problem. We used silicone to replace the gasket and everything is working fine. I hope this helps someone.

If you keep your loader on you will probably won't be using that lever much. It needs to be engaged to run the pump. You can and I do disengage the pto with the pto speed selection lever on the left rear side of the tractor. If the tractor is new and you bought from a dealer, he needs to prep the tractor better. If not with a dealer or crate tractor you need to check and/or change fluids, bolt tightness, and both clutch adjustments.

This lever disconnects the input side of the PTO shaft and disables the rear mounted hydraulic pump. On our tractors we cut the lever down to 2" as it is only needed in case of hydraulic pump or PTO transmission failure to allow you to drive home. The PTO gears are very robust in this tractor and we have not had any problems with them, but the slider will burr if you try to engage it with the PTO shaft turning at any speed. The problem is that with no load on that shaft, it is almost impossible for the shaft to ever stop.

If you disengage and want to re-engage, the best way is to do it with the engine coasting, that is run the engine and with the engine kill pulled gently pull the lever up. DO NOT GRIND as that is what causes the burr which makes it nearly impossible to engage by the lever.

Sorry I am late in this, I have been out of town all week and just catching up. I would recommend cutting the lever shorter so you are not likely to bump it out of gear with your heal.

As far as that lever by your left foot..... i had to put a wedge under it.. I stepped on it almost every time I got on the tractor....The wedge fixed the problem.....

What happens if there is a burr and won稚 engage with the lever? Is there a way to fix it? Also i would appreciate a copy of the manual for the ts354c if you have it available. Thank you

You probably have fixed this by now. I don't get around here much anymore but since its only been a couple weeks since your post I'll put this on here.
To access the sleeve that slides to connect the 2 splined shafts when the lever by your left heal is engaged, you have to remove the 3 point lift box. It will be right there. sometimes you can apply some gentle persuasion with a hammer. If you use this method, I would never disengage the pto at that lever. just use the neutral position on the speed lever (by left hip with small black ball). Since good practice requires never handling a pto shaft with the engine running, this will be fine. the reason I say that is the speed gears are usually pretty easy to engage and the rotating parts inside are very very close (usually close enough that the oil can act like a fluid drive and keep the shaft turning when no load is on it).

to repair properly, the PTO shaft has to come out the back of the tractor enough so the sleeve can be removed and deburred with a file.
Sorry I am not aware of a source for a service manual. We stopped handling KAMA tractors at the beginning of 2007. we do still stock a lot of the common parts.
