I have a 1993 Kaw 300 4x4 that just started leaking gas from the tube coming off the bottom of the carb. It appears to be a drain tube for the carb. However, the screw in the "bowl" is all the way in(which should be off). I tried clamping this line off to stop the flow of gas from the tube but then the engine dies? Why is this leaking and is it more than just a drain tube to empty the gas from the carb? I removed the screw to look at it and it appears to be fine. Is there a rubber seal or something inside that this screw butts up against, maybe it's bad?

Sounds to me like the needle and float are stuck open....not shutting off the gas when the bowl is full...when you pinch the tube, so the bowl can't drain...you flood the carb/motor???

IMHO

Sounds like that to me, too. Either the needle valve cannot close properly because of some foreign object or wear to the needle or seat or you may have a leaky float (that now won't float anymore). The tube you describe is the overflow for the carb bowl. The whole system works very similar to the valve setup in a toilet tank. If for any reason the level gets too high, it goes out the overflow.
You will have to pull the carb and disassemble it. There are quite a few small parts in there so you will need a suitable work area. Been there and screwed that one up. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif I lost the float pin from my Suzuki carb and promptly found it immediately after buying a new one. It's not rocket science, so if you are mechanical in nature it is not difficult and you will most likely learn more about how the system works in the process.

I would agree with the others. i just rebuilt my carb on my 92 kawasaki 300 4x4. simple.
you can get a kit that moose makes for about $15 bucks i think. it's got the jets and a new needle and seat. it doesnt come with a float.
be careful with the choke linkage it's plastic and threaded into the carb. not hard to change but no reason to mess it up.
The moose kit was cheaper than a kawa kit so you might ask for one from your dealer.
