Keep or ditch my tractor

The ROPS mounted kit was swapped to the front third function kit for the same cost. Maybe that was a sweetheart deal, I really do not know?

Not true. I love the tractor. I've gathered and burned or dumped more than 11,000 cubic yard of hurricane debris (mostly swamp canes, trees, and broken lumbers from docks and houses) with it. Without that tractor, I could not have done it. After each hurricane, I have debris almost 3 ft deep on my 7 acres of land. I've hung on to it. Tried to fix it, spent way too much money doing so. :)
I understand.

I had a John Deere 350D bulldozer like that. It was nice to have a nimble bulldozer, and it did a lot of work, but it needed a lot of repairs. I would rather work on equipment then operate it, but I was not sad to see it go down the hill on a lowbed.

In the end I was not in love with the tractor, I was in love with all the work the machine did.

Too bad we don稚 live closer together. I壇 operate all your equipment and you can fix mine. I hate working on stuff, but view it as a necessary thing.

Having that mechanic/welder/machinist in me really works well for repairing equipment, but I do not consider myself a great mechanic because I am slow at it. Some guys, they just grab a wrench and 2 hours later they have an engines disassembled and running again. Me, I have to think through problems. I seem to always get around them, but it takes time for me.

The fact that the transmission slips out of gear tells me that most likely the bearings in the transmission are corroded from the salt water. The reality is that the transmission is most likely due for a major overhaul. Frankly with that and the other problems you've mentioned.....start shopping.

Might just be shift mechanism/shift rails and the dents and springs all rusted up.

Still my require complete disassembly.

Get it insured and wait for the next hurricane. :)

I can't imagine insurance would cost too much. I have an atv policy that covers the machine even if I rent it out, and that's only $120/yr.

Another option would be to sell it to a tractor salvage yard.

Well,
I yielded to the temptation of fixing it again. Over the weekend I got my fuel pump repaired, replaced the rusted out fuel bowl with a R12T fuel filter/water separator, and replaced the left steering cylinder with one I got from a TBN member. All I need is another hydraulic line and I'm back to running on low gear again. Another few hundred bucks spent on the tractor. :)

Speaking too soon I guess :(

I got the steering cylinder and the hydraulic line replaced. It ran for about 20 minutes then hydraulic oil started to squirt out at the bottom of the double acting valve. I don't know what it is yet but if I have to replace those two double acting valves they are approximately $300 a piece.
