Keepin\' it clean

Now here is (are) the question(s):

How many of you wash your tractor ?
How many of you wax/polish your tractor ? Preferences?
How many of you cover your tractor ? (What do you use to cover?)

Re: Keepin\' it clean

I cleaned and waxed it with canuba wax when I first got it. That allowed a thorough going over, and got a good protective coat. Hasn't been cleaned since, but it stays looking nice.

Re: Keepin\' it clean

Don't wax, never will, unless I get really bored.
I wash it off with a water hose after the job is over.
The new tractor stays under the cover of the barn.
So does the 286 Bush Hog. Everything else stays outside and around the barn, that will change when a bigger barn is built. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: Keepin\' it clean

I never waxed or polished mine (although I think it's a good idea), but I did wash it frequently, and I didn't have to cover it because it was kept inside my shop building.

Re: Keepin\' it clean

I wash it when it's done a dirty job. Probably wax or compound it this year, since I'm thinking about selling or trading it (little bit more PTO HP and dual stage clutch or independent PTO).
Did wax it once, last year...when I was doing my Explorer. Reckon I had too much energy (actually, was a beautiful day just to be outside)

Re: Keepin\' it clean

Wash with Zymol Auto Wash, wax with Zymol Cleaner Wax. Website is www.zymol.com I got hooked up with the Zymol line because I have a black over silver F250 SuperDuty and black paint can be challenge to get the perfect mirror finish.

Re: Keepin\' it clean

The dealer put some kind of shinney finish on it when I bought it. I was mine with the pressure washer and the pressure turned down to a reasonable level. I park it in my garage. If you are interested in a Tractor Bye Net Best Buy on a pressure washer here is the link. I recently purchased this pressure washer and it is WELL worth the money and is a good quality pressure washer. Comes with an AR pump, stainless wand, 8 nozzles, 50 ft. of hose, 3500 psi, 4 gpm, 13.5 hp Robin/Subaru engine, $749 delivered, no sales tax. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Re: Keepin\' it clean

Wash and touchup paint on tractor and all implements regularly, wax occasionally, keep tractor and all implements in garage. The only time it gets rained on if my a** is in the seat, headed for the garage.

Re: Keepin\' it clean

I haven't washed or waxed mine yet, probably should however. Kept mine covered with a tarp before we got the shed.

Re: Keepin\' it clean

I washed my last tractor a couple of times after I bought it twleve years ago and once right before I sold it. I did hose it off once in awhile after slinging a lot of mud doing road work. I'll probably keep my new tractor washed off more regularly. Waxing is probably a good idea but with my limited time I'd rather be running it than rubbing it. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: Keepin\' it clean

Never waxed it, Yet!! Summer Work Zone. Pressure wash the mud and crud after each major use, Time permitting (kids ball games). Or if the wife is on the Warpath, (Deifnite Pressure wash with high RPM). Like a clean machine in the garage.

Re: Keepin\' it clean

I wash mine if it gets dirty.

Rubbed it down several times with rubbing compound to restore the finish (I bought it used) and after I got the hood looking all shiny like I then waxed it. I'll probably wax it once a year - it doesn't take very long.

I store it in the extra garage bay but have to keep the hood up so the cats won't lay on it.

Kind of **** but I like to keep it looking good /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: Keepin\' it clean

....I wax mine every spring, though, given how little
time it takes to clean, I might do it once a month as it is a quick and rewarding job.....much
quicker than washing and waxing my Dodge Ram 4 X 4 club cab /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: Keepin\' it clean

My 4400 Deere is powerwashed after going over it with a sudsy mitt once a month during mowing season and once a year it gets detailed with the green plastic getting a coat of Meguiar's Gold Class paste wax (would not want it rusting /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif)and the tires and floor mat and black dash get a coat of Armorall. The tire sidewalls get a coat of Armorall tire cleaner/protectant. The mower deck is much more difficult to detail and it is powerwashed and where the yellow paint has come off, it is repainted. Cleaning the FEL is avoided for the most part with all of the grease making that very difficult and there is a limit even to my **** retentiveness. When not in use, the tractor is parked in its basement garage. Michael S.

Re: Keepin\' it clean

- I regularly use my leaf blower to clean it off after I've been outside working - gets the dust and dirt off initially while helping me clean the finish mower and other implements
- I use a pressure washer once in a while to clean it good (low spray)
- I have used Pledge to wax it occasionally but it gets dirty pretty fast - I've noticed that some folks mention using car wax of some sort. Will this help hold the dirt off more and keep it shiny?
- I do touch up the implements but the bucket is a bear (especially if you use it alot). My wife comments that I have more cans of JD touch-up paint around then I do cans of normal house paint.

Re: Keepin\' it clean

I use car wax on my 4100, but it has a metal hood.....it DOES help
keep stuff off of it.....also, I use my air compressor to blow the grass
debris and dirt off the machine ..... I find with the wax on the hood the
dirt and dust comes off very easily when hit with 120 PSI air from the
compressor......I am also guilty of occasionally getting out the Armor-All ;-) /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Re: Keepin\' it clean

I use compressed air to clean the bulk of debry and dirt off and periodicly the pressure washer to clean it really good. I use the Blue Coral Wash & Wax in conjuction with the pressure washer. The washer has a small suction feed tube you put in the bottle and it draws the soap or whatever into the pressure washer hose. The Blue Coral was on sale at Wally World for $2.87 for the gallon bottles last week. I think it is still the same price. They also had the Orange Blast degreaser soap marked down from $5.87 to $3.87. This stuff works great too but removes all the wax. I have not tried the furniture polish yet but I just may. I know the Crew Chiefs used to use it on the windshields and greenhouse canopy of the Blackhawk helicopters when I was flying them in the Army. Seemed to work pretty good for them.
