A buddy of mine had the same problem with his hunting property years ago. He has about 100 acres of land in a rural remote area. Somebody was hunting on his property with 4 wheelers tearing the place up. They were also leaving their garbage and beer cans everywhere. He was in the same situation as you; remote area, nobody around, and local law enforcement didn't get involved. He figured out they were coming in and out of the property thru the same gate every time. The gate was chained but they would just remove the bolts from the hinges, or cut the chain, and drive right in. He finally had enough and went to extremes to catch the people. So he dug a trench 3 foot wide and 5 feet deep about 4 feet into his property past the gate. He covered the trench with three-quarter inch plywood then covered the plywood with dirt and leaves/pine needles. He then posted a huge sign, the letters were a foot tall, "DANGEROUS AREA KEEP OUT" He then purchased a camera that had infa red night capability. The camera was diigital and could hold 300 pictures. The camera was positioned to take a picture of the rear of the vehicle (license plate) as it drove thru the gate. After everything was set up he would drive by and check the area every 3 to 4 days and clear any pictures of deer, squirrels etc. out of the camera. After two weeks he shows up one day and there is mud everywhere, the plywood is broken, the gate torn up, trees and limbs cut up and thrown into the trench. He checks the camera and it has about 25 pictures of a brand new chevy truck sitting on it's front grille in the trench. He also gets pictures of the license plate and the three people inside. The icing on the cake is the tow truck, with the phone number on it's side, pulling the truck out of the trench. He takes the pictures to the local sheriff and explains what has been going on for the last 3 months. The sheriff runs the license plate number and finds the owner who lives 3 counties away. He also contacted the tow truck service and verifed the idenity of the person who called the tow truck. The sheriff still didn't really want to bother with all this, which really made my buddy mad. In the end my buddy mailed the guy copies of the pictures, nothing written. No note, no letter, no threat, nothing at all. Of course he didn't put a return address on the package either. No problems since then.
