I did not get a block heater (Kick myself) on my tc40.what should I do when the snow pile up and its cold beside the preheater before starting. do those dipstick heater stick work the tractor is kept inside just not heated. I have never owned a diesel tractor so before old man winter comes for good I would like to know

If I understand correctly, you keep your tractor in an unheated building. If that is the case, you shouldn't have any problem starting your tractor with just the glow plugs. I would let it run 10-15 minutes to warm up before you start working it though.

Hobby guy, I think this topic has been covered best in this thread. It's a fairly long one, but I think worth your time to read. I've never heard anything good about the dipstick heaters, but obviously someone must be using them or they wouldn't keep making them.

When I got out of high school I inhereted the family car with a straight 6. I had to keep it outside. Had a dipstick heater. I couldn't notice any difference in starting help. I got a heater for the radiator hose and it worked OK until it burned up and pumped all of the antifreeze out. I finally got a block heater in one of the freeze plugs. It worked good. Used an old quilt over the engine to keep some of the heat in. Had it on a timer so it would start up about 4 hours before I was to leave.
