Kerosene is $3.84 and diesel is $4.49 or higher. Anybody running kerosene? Do you need to run a lube oil for the injectors. From other post it appears that low sulfur diesel has less lubricating properties than #2 fuel oil. Do you need to run lube oil with the new low sulfur diesel in older diesel engines?

I run kerosene in the winter without any problems. Mostly for the easy starting and less gelling. but I treat the kero with Power Service or Howes.

BTW- older diesels with rotary pumps do need additional lubrication with ULSD.

My boss has been running it in his 93 Dodge. He first tried it when "Katrina" raised diesel prices. I was afraid to run it in my 01. JC

Somehow I have to believe that most of the difference is the road tax on diesel which is not paid on kerosene.

As long as you don't get caught, you are saving money.

The fine for getting caught will make this a lot less cost effective than you think...

How many years does it take for ULSD to trash the Bosch Rotary Distributor Pumps?

Our three VE pumps have been running on ULSD exclusively with no additives and have not experienced any failure to date?

Wooooah! Come again? Kerosene instead of diesel? crashz running a JD 770 just like mine? Do tell more! Here in Taxsylvania off road diesel was $ 4.12 per gallon over the weekend. I am ready to get refilled can I maybe cut my diesel with kero? Percent? I am not very mechanically inclined so please explain the risks.

The only problem with the pumped kerosene is it is red too, so tax evasion is a real possibility if caught running it on road.
6 months ago I bought about 20 gallons of clear kerosene in one gallon jugs for about $2 a jug...bought all they had, would have bought hundreds if they had had them. Closeout at WalMart for kero heaters.

Here we run 50-50 in the winter. Usually just fill the tank in the fall on top of whatever is left over from the summer with #1 diesel which i think is kero.

Not sure on the Bosch pumps. But nearly every Stanadyne pump we have had(old IH TD15 & Hough Loader, GM 6.2L) we have replaced with factory rebuilds. When we inquired on the failed units the repair techs said they failed due to lack of lubrication. Suggested the Stanadyne lube (of course) and blamed ULSD. Of course, even when diesel was chocked full of sulfer, those pumps wouldn't last long. Time will tell on the treated fuel. Haven't put enough hours on anything yet to determine if the pumps will last longer when run with treated fuel.
