Key won't shut off tractor YM2310 so have to use the kill switch? Looking to possibly purchase. Is this a big issue to correct? Also, one brake pedal was almost rubbing the other. I assume that could be adjusted? Any help for this Yanmar newbie would be appreciated.

The Throttle Arm if you push it all the way forward should and the correct way to kill the motor. And look behind the brake pedals and there should be a latch. Latch it and both pedals becomes one.

Not sure what you are calling the kill switch. Guessing you may be talking about the compression release and that is not the proper way to kill it. Carey gave correct way.

Brake pedals need to be adjusted properly so that when you latch them together you have two wheel brakes. If not adjusted properly and latched together you only have one wheel brake. Almost touching doesn't matter, not like handgranades. Probably already know this but tractors are made so you can lock a brake causing one wheel to stop, the other keeps on turning and you can turn on a dime at the end of the row, make sense? Or you can lock them together for a two wheel braking.

Sorry to be slow catching on here, but it's not a big deal if tractor won't shut off by turning key to off position?

Well, if the engine is a compression ignition (diesel) then there is nothing "electric" to switch off that will keep the engine from running.
There ARE systems included in the engine electricals that CUT THE FUEL when the key is switched off. But due to requirements, these "fuel cut off" systems are not simply "on/off"(open/closed) electrical contacts.
Many fuel cut off systems make use of a small "controller" that acts a an electrical relay with a timer built in.
I bet the tractor needs attention there. Perhaps a replacement control module . Somewhere around $100 for the part. And then the diagnostics and work to replace it.

Mechanical fuel shut off is the least complicated. Little more than a control rod that stops fuel delivery.
But with that, you can forget to turn off the electrical portion of the tractor and drain the battery powering indicator lamps and the like.

Key does not shut off any of these old tractors. They do not have electric fuel cut off solonoids. There mechanical so you have to shut off the fuel all the way. Sometimes the linkages stick and you have to reach down and pull the linkage closed. There is also no kill switch on these tractors????Unless your counting the throttle lever?

There is nothing electrical to do with the fuel on his (your to the op) tractor. No control boards, solonoids, or modules.

These diesels throttle and on off is controlled solely by that throttle lever. Air is always wide open unlike a gas engine. Once this tractor is running it will stay running till you cut that fuel off which is controlled with your throttle lever.

Forget the key in this , there is no adjustment either. The key is just for your convenience to start the tractor from the seat. I can jump your tractor staning beside it crank it up and run it all day long. I just won't have warning or headlights.

Not trying to be difficult but some of the older models do have fuel shutoff solenoids. Pretty sure all the two digit F series have fuel shutoffs. They were manufactured mid 1980s to mid 1990s. I would still classify that as old. I do very much agree the 2310 is all mechanical.

You guys are great. Although it shows just how little I know about a diesel tractor!!! I do appreciate you all taking the time to help out.
