Might not be right place but heck why not try......
Have a lot with a ton of bull briars, have chopped them down annually for several years, they keep coming back. I understand they spread by roots, but digging them up isn't a good option, for various reasons.

Thinking that I need to employ chemistry.....but since I don't have a drum of agent orange in the shed, wondering if something like Ortho Poison Ivy Control will kill them?

Or do I just need to keep cutting and cutting and cutting?

Jim

You could try roundup, spray in the spring when the leaves are tender. If they come back, spray with a heavy dose in the late fall (before the first frost). In the spring, the sap from the plant runs from the root to leaf and in the fall the sap runs from the leaf to root.

We mow in the fall/winter and spray in the late spring/early summer. Mowing puts the plant in distress, it send all it's energy to the regrowth and then you hit it with chemical. We have done many acres this way.

Ditto. I would use something stronger than roundup. Maybe crossbow? I'm not an expert on chemicals but I know our guy uses it a lot for general spraying on area that we have mulched when they resprout.

I think we are talking about the same thing, but we call them "saw briars" down here. The roots look like potatoes.

Sorry to say, but it's the only plant on my farm that I can't find a way to kill.
Well, I guess, if you don't count digging them up by the roots.

[when you cut them off paint the stems with straight roundup an dit should kill them ...............works for most plants
