Folks,

I was thinking of getting a used 48 inch box blade to help with some leveling and also for scraping to get some fresh top soil from the floor of my woods.

There is someone local to me selling the above for $250 used but in excellent condition. Is the KK 48 inch a good version - anything I should be leery of?

Those are decent boxblades, not the heaviest duty but should work for your use. Does it have the adjustable plowing teeth with it? and $250 isn't a bad price if it isn't missing the teeth.

according to the KK website it does : "Each box blade is constructed with a 20" specially formed self cleaning moldboard. They have 2 high carbon steel reversible cutting edges (one front and one rear). Each unit features heavy duty, ripper shanks with replaceable, heat treated teeth. Each shank has 4 position adjustment holes that pin to the reinforced frame for maximum efficiency. The shank housing is a 1/4" x 4" x 4" box with slotted holes and pins. The upper frame is constructed of heavy gauge steel with replaceable lift and brace arms."

My tractor is about 60 inches wide....would I be better with a 48 or a 60 BB?

yea new they all come with shanks, but I see used ones with them missing is why I asked.

I dunno what size tractor you have but it must be a larger machine being 60" wide? mine is only like 49" wide with rims reversed. Anyway if you have enough HP for the 5' I would go with it so your tracks are covered.

They are good I think so far anyway I have a 72" one and its too light so I added 350# extra weight, 250 is a decent price I think.

Having a 60" track and a 48" blade wont work very well I dont think unless you can offset it some how or be able to bring a drag in afterwards to cover the tracks and then maybe it wont make even tracks with turfs? elifino

I have a 2020 with loaded turf's and had the rims offset so I would get a wider stance and it brings me out to 60 inches....Thoughts?

I think you would be happier with a box blade the same width as the tractor track for almost everything.

A smaller box is sometimes nice because all of the scarifiers can be run through hard or rocky soil, and it's easier on the machine. A small blade can be weighted to where it will still cut but be usable, whereas a larger one sometimes will not.

My 5 1/2' blade will sometimes stop my 6500 lb, 46 hp tractor dead in its tracks if I'm trying to rip tough soil. For smoothing gravel or light material, my little 186D handles it fine.

I think you are right.....I should look for a 60 inch wide....Bummer - used equipment is not easy to find around here :(

The search continues...

I feel your pain! I've been wanting a used one and haven't seen any. TSC in westerly sells 60 inch box blades for $500+. Not a bad deal for a new one. Can anyone tell us how those are?
