Finally put the 48" tiller to work in creating my garden. Had the same sort of set up issues that have been mentioned before. Such as the skid shoes not adjusting the same on each side. If you try and use the bottom hole to get maximun digging depth the side oposite the gearbox has a bolt that gets in the way. It's funny that they are still made this way when it's such an obvious problem that would cost next to nothing to solve. In the pics you can see I made a number of 12'X30 plots with a 4' strip of field in between for walking on. The King Kuttter chopped up the sod like nothing and it didn't even flinch at the occasional larger rock.

wow seems like the tiller did a great job. All new garden beds! Are you going to plant all of them with veggies or are you going to put cover crops on a couple of them.

Just thinking a few of them in buckwheat would maybe kill off some of the weeds that will be showing their ugly faces this spring and summer.

Only veggies being planted. I don't know what to expect in terms of weeds and grass but I assume its going to be a battle. Price for the 48" KK II at TSC was $1198.

Seeing you have the tools why not make one more bed area and then seed it with buckwheat. You should be able to get three plantings in one season. You will be surprised how quickly it grows and then till it under before it goes to seed and replant. The following year it will be your best garden plot for sure.

I got a kk 5 ft,I've found that its really useless to adjust those shoes,I put mine about middle range and forget about it,,,the only time they control your depth is on untilled ground,[first pass],,or on the edge,,after that first pass the shoes just sink down to about the depth you went first pass,,generally takes at least two passes for me,so first pass maybe 3-4 inches deep, second pass maybe 3-4 more, they are a good thing for new ground maybe or if you just wanted to scratch surface for some kinda grass seed [maybe],,thingy

Gotta go by size,,but don't think the 4 ft one is much less than 5 ft one, bought mine 3 years ago for 1,000 bucks,,5 ft one,,king kutter brand,,[maybe they got more than one brand]??,,,thingy

For the 48" tiller there is the King Kutter II and also an XB model designed for a SCUT, but they are both around $1200.(At least around these parts)
