Santa gave me the go-ahead to buy a yard rake w/wheels.
Can someone explain the difference between the regular King Kutter 60" yard rake and their XB series 60" yard rake?
I have a BX23. I understand the cat 1 hitch is somehow different, but will the regular KK rake fit OK, and is it heavier duty?

Hi Ken,

I'm not familiar with the XB series, but I have the standard King Kutter Cat. 1 rake. The first thing I would check is the size of the pins that go in your 3PH, and the top link pin. On a Cat. 1 implement, the 3PH pins are 7/8" and the top link pin is 3/4". If your BX 23 takes those size pins, it would technically work. I suspect your tractor has the Cat. 0 hitch, which uses smaller pins. The standard KK rake may be a little more than your tractor can safely handle.

Ken,

The XB series of attachments by KK are made specifically for sub-compacts like the BX, JD 2210, etc. They are "shorter" to get adequate lift clearance, they have the draft pins set in somewhat narrower (and they can also be reversed to point inwards), and the mast height is also shorter than the standard Cat I. All of these are intended to make the attachments work better on the sub-compacts. I would go with that series.

Ken,

I have a standard KK 6' landscape rake that will work with my BX, but I had to make a minor modification to the lift rods to get more height so it would swing around without hitting the ground.

If I only had the BX I would buy the XB series implements that are designed for the smaller 3PH. The pin size is the same for the BX, but the geometry is different than a more standard size cat 1 hitch.

Now I have not tried any XB series implements so I don't know for sure, but my gut tells me that is what would work best and if my BX was my only tractor that is what I would go with...

Thanks all,
Looks like the XB model with the wheels. I liked to see one before buying, and there's a TSC about an hour from me. Hopefully I'll also be able to adapt the wheel kit to my front mount plow a get a little more for the money.

Not that I am a King Kutter hater, but I can't seem to understand why the new XB series are smaller, lighter, meaning less materials to manufacture, less shipping cost, etc. but they cost the same as their larger cousins.
Perhaps that there orange paint costs so much more than that yellow they usually use.
Please let us know how you like your new rake, I was considering one, but my dealer says that all I going to end up with around these parts is a ball of dirt.
I am going to rent one for a day to see if he's right.

The old law of supply and demand. I ran into the same thing when I bought a 42" bush hog for my old Kubota. They make a lot of 4' bush hogs but very few 42" so the 42" costs same as 4'.

Same thing with the XB rake. They probably sell 100 of the standard for every 1 XB they sell.

Sad but true.

I have the King Kutter XB 60" landscape rake, and it works perfectly with my BX23. It also worked perfectly with a B6000, which is slightly smaller than my BX23. The pins are 7/8" diameter at the lift points and 3/4" diameter at the top pin. The design is slightly different than the standard landscape rakes, but it doesn't really use less material from what I can see. It's just a different design to make the height of the implement lower, so the rake comes higher off the ground when lifted by a sub compact. I've been happy with it. It's been sitting outside for about 10 months, and so far the only rust is where I chipped the paint off it, and the paint hasn't really faded.
