Hi all
I am building a fifth wheel trailer and am having trouble finding
a source for the king pin for the hitch on the trailer.. Any help would
be great.

I'm sure if you were to call any trailer manufacturer they'd be happy to sell you one(Like Big Tex ) or here's one manufacturer. King Pin

If it were me, I'd just call a place that sells fifth wheel trailers and just ask for their parts department. After all, that's all you're looking to buy here ... a trailer part. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Another source would be a semi trailer dealer's parts department or a heavy duty body shop that works on semi tractors and trailers. I'd imagine a lot of them would stock something like that, too, if they're large enough.

Good luck with your project. I hope this helps. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Try looking up Redneck trailer. On the internet. I do alot of business with them and they are fair priced,

the king pin is the same size on a fifth wheel trailer as it is on a tractor trailer semi truck, so you should be able to find a truck stop or heavy truck shop that could get you one without a problem, they are a heavy part so shipping could get expensive, i have replaced them on semi trucks before but luckly never had to buy one myself, im sure they aint cheap

Just one more thought, how are you going to attach your king pin? You know they are made from wear resistance material and if you weld it like most are attached you need to exercise extreme care. You will have to pre-heat the part and use a higher strength filler material, perferably one that is low-hydrogen. It may even require a post weld heat treat to allow it to cool slowly and not crack. See if the supplier of the king pin has any welding suggestions.

I have also used Redneck trailers for parts. In fact I bought a complete 5th wheel unit from them. They are nice people and can give you a lot of good advise if you ask for it. Thier prices are good.

Thank you all for the suggestions. I found one at a local junk yard today
and hope to go get it this week. The problem was that the shipping to me would have been about $150.00
and I did not want to pay that much on top of the$170 for the part

Thanks again
