I picked this seeder/spreader up at a local TSC hoping it would work. The flex shaft definetly looks too long - I didn't even want to give it a spin. Good thing for the no hassle return policy. What a shame because the tag price was $322 and the manager sold it to me at a huge discount as it had been outside a long while and had some rust. The inside was very clean and I could tell the unit was never used. Farm Star Equipment also makes an electric version that looks to have basically the same frame. Plan to find out if it would be possible to convert this one and still save $$.
Anybody disagree that this is too much bend for a flex shaft?

Looks to long to me.
If u can weld at all it would be easy to modify the brackets off the 3pt so it sat further back from the tractor and take the kink out of the shaft. Just my 2 cents

No go on the electric mod or a shorter shaft from the mfr. I have it sitting up on blocks to get an idea of how far back it needs to extend and it looks like it would have to go about 12" back further - a pretty fair offset.

What about mounting a 90 degree gear box below the spinner and then have a standard PTO shaft to the gear box?

Returned the unit to TSC then went to a dealer across town and got him to install a Herd M-96. Pricier than what I had but looks like it is made of better material. I even had time to get my yard fertilized and the Over&Out put out too. The M-96 does not empty out completely - it leaves a little better than a quart of material in the hopper. If you had a whisk broom on a 2 foot long handle, you could take it to the last drop sitting in the seat. Other than this minor thing, I am totally satisfied with its performance today.

Iww,

Glad you got it worked out and are happy with the Herd seeder, I know I like my unit. I found that if I adjust the top link so the seeder is towards the seat a bit, it does a good job of getting most of the stuff in the hooper out, not all but most. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif The broom idea is a good one /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
