Kioti 60\" rotary cutter repair

I have the Kioti 60" rotary cutter and it doesn't have but like 10 hours on it from last year (the first season I had it). I got it out today to do the cleanup, greasing, check the oil and do some light work around the edge of the woods where some brambles are invading on the yard. I noticed I had a very bad wobble in the thing and looked closely and the 4 bolts that go through the gear box to the underneath of the cutter were loose enough I could turn them with my fingers. I used the FEL and turned it up on its side against a telephone pole and was able to tell that there were no nuts visible between the stump jumper and top plate of the cover.

I guess I am going to have to go buy some 3/4" drive sockets since I need an 1 1/2" socket and 1 1/4 is as large as my 1/2" drive set goes up to. I also noticed that the rear wheel shaft has some hefty play in it (laterally). I'm not too happy about that because the thing doesn't have much time on it and I sure havn't put it through anything large. That whole thing is a bolt with a head that appears to be around 2" or larger. My 24" adjustable wrench won't even open up large enough to get on it.

Does anyone know what I should expect taking the stump jumper and blades off of this thing once I get a socket big enough to do it? Will the nuts for those 4 bolts be higher up just where I couldn't see them?

I'd take it back to the dealer and have them repair it. 10 hours of use and it fell apart, that is nearly criminal. Any dealer worth a darn would fix it regardless of warrenty.

I bought a 3/4" socket set from Northern Hydraulics last year and it seems to work great the few times I use it, cost about $ 40. A lot cheaper than Craftsman but not the same quality.

The mower has a one year warranty on it. Why in the world would you not be calling the dealer to fix it?

Obviously this one didn't make it through quality control too well.

Sorry you're having the problem, but when you first got it, assuring that all the bolts were tight is something anyone should do, with another check after a few hours of use. It's just par for the course when using this type of equipment.

Re: Kioti 60\" rotary cutter repair

I am certain that the gear box was not loose when I started the last mowing session for the pasture. It really couldn't have since it was loose enough that as I was bringing it up to speed it was wobbling bad enough that I was definetely feeling it in the seat of my pants and immediately searching for a cause.

I didn't even think about taking it in for warranty work since I just assumed that I would be charged for the work since it is "use" related problems even if it did occur at a much lower hour count than it should have.

If I would be charged for it, I'd just as soon buy the 3/4" drive stuff and do it myself, but I guess I'd have to try them first to find out. Should I push for a pick up of the rotary cutter or put it on my little trailer with the FEL and take it in myself?

Re: Kioti 60\" rotary cutter repair

Well.. I got the thing going today.. bought a cheap 3/4" drive set from Tractor Supply and got everything done. Wasn't gone testing it but 15 minutes before I experienced one of the worst sides of tractoring. Couldn't do anything except put it all up and call it a day... don't want anymore for today. I got a rabbits nest and it broke my heart.

Getut, I'm like you in that I get pretty bummed out when I unintentionally kill something. I am willing to dispatch an injured animal or any threatening animal, but while I am willing to do it I don't like it. You've had a bad day. Sorry.

Yeah, that would have gotten me too. Sorry to hear it, but glad to hear you got the mower back in shape. John
